Haritaki contains antibacterial agents that clean the gut of harmful bacteria. Researchers point out that for every hour the human waste stays in the gut the bacteria multiply by many millions. Many of these bacteria are harmful and have been connected with diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. Researchers have found that the bacteria penetrate the  intestinal walls, and create cuts. These cuts are similar to the lesions that appear in the brain as part of the onset of these diseases. Very interestingly, these cuts in the intestinal walls are showing up up to 20 years in advance of the cuts appearing in the brain. The conclusion is that the disease spreads through the central nervous system to the brain. Tests for early onset of Parkinson’s are now being conducted by looking into the intestines for signs of these cuts.
To remove the calcium buildup that we already have so that the pineal gland is decalcified we can use Haritaki as one tool. Ayurvedic treatment starts with detoxification and elimination of toxins. It relies heavily on the right diet and lifestyle as well as Ayurvedic herbal preparations. The panchakarma techniques called kati vasti, sarvangadhara and patrapinda svedana are very beneficial too. The basic explanation for the disorder is that AS occurs due to an accumulation of ama or toxins in the body. Where ever ama deposits in the body, pain is caused. Ayurvedic treatments aim at digesting the ama by using herbs as medicine and balancing the aggravated vata.
Furthermore, haritaki reputedly increases prana, the super-fine essence of vata.13 Prana is the force that is present in every cell, in the subtle body, in the mind, and connected to our souls. It powers the body and keeps the mind supple and adaptable. It bestows creativity, enthusiasm, and strength. It is all this and more—and without prana, there is no life. This link to increasing prana could be behind the deep-rooted belief in India and Tibet that haritaki increases energy, intelligence, and awareness.14 These abilities could also support haritaki’s link to emotional health and its use when looking to alleviate grief and sadness.15 And perhaps this is even behind the claims that haritaki imparts strength and softens the effects of aging.16

As one of the three ingredients in the Ayurvedic super formula Triphala, haritaki (Terminalia chebula) is considered to be one of the best herbs for balancing vata dosha. Supporting the body's innate cleansing process, it gently removes accumulated natural toxins in the gastrointestinal tract. As a rejuvenative, it strengthens and nourishes the tissues and supports the proper function of the colon, lungs, liver, and spleen. Haritaki is traditionally used as a remedy for all vata-related imbalances. It maintains regular elimination, helps promote healthy body mass, and supports comfortable and complete digestion. Haritaki is highly revered in India, as it is believed to increase energy, intelligence, and awareness.*
Following your natural circadian rhythm is necessary to awaken the third eye. That means you should mostly wake up at sunrise and go to sleep a few hours after the sunset. Your body then knows how to maintain a high level of energetic stability. If, however, you’re glued to your laptop, the TV screen or your mobile device, you can disrupt this natural flow of energy (especially if you do it right before going to sleep).
Take around two tablespoonfuls of Herbal decoction and mix it well with around two cups of water (Around 150 ml water) in the evening hours. Keep the mixture for whole night. The very next morning, boil this mixture on light to medium flame. Shake it well during boiling. Gradually the water will start to get evaporating. When around half cup of water remains in the mixture during boiling, take it down. Strain the liquid into a glass or ceramic container using a sieve or a cloth such as a jelly bag or muslin cloth. Drink the freshly prepared liquid decoction after 4-5 minutes.
Since triphala supports healthy elimination, it is not uncommon to experience looser motions than usual. All of these reactions can be byproducts of cleansing. If your cleansing experience becomes too intense, you can stop taking triphala until the symptoms subside and restart using less, or simply reduce the amount you are ingesting. If the symptoms recur, it is best to stop use and consult a practitioner.
